Effects of merit pay on teachers;
Merit pay/merit increase or pay for performance, is performance-related pay.
Mostly used for educational reform  (government jobs).
It provides bonuses for workers who perform their jobs effectively.

However, Merit pay’s roots lie in behavioral psychology and incentive theory.

These theories are based on the belief that people are rational and love incentives.

The teacher Advancement Program (TAP). This was created by the Milken Family Foundation in 1999.

It is a very good example of a system that uses merit pay.

 

Here are some of the positive effects of merit pay on teachers;

1. It motivates the teachers:

The teacher immediately becomes motivated to want to do better and become better at what they do.

Merit pay does not only motivate and encourage the teachers to work.

It also automatically improves their performance.

Because teachers who do not feel valued usually do not feel motivated to work.
